What do you think of when you hear or see the word "bank?" Does it conjure up ideas about big business? Paperwork? Fees? Balance sheets and debt?
Or maybe you think of it as a safe place for your hard-earned dollars and it represents security. A solid place for your valuables in the vault.
Since I've been a part of the time bank, my frame of reference has shifted. I imagine our Sebastopol Time Bank as a place that holds treasures. Instead of a big, heavy door slamming shut to keep them all safe inside, our bank throws the door open wide and we say, "Come on in and help yourself!"
It's a shift from balance sheets to ... balance. Need a hand, lend a hand. It all works out.
